Privacy Policy for Simple Notepad
Simple Notepad is a lightweight notes application. This Privacy Policy explains what data may be processed when you use the app, how that data is used, and the choices you have.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Notes and note metadata
Your notes, edit timestamps, deletion status, and related note metadata are stored locally on your device so the app can create, edit, recover, search, export, restore, and manage notes. If you enable Cloud Sync, this information is also synced to your private Google Drive AppData space associated with your Google account.
1.2 Google account information for Cloud Sync
If you choose to sign in for Cloud Sync, the app may process your Google account email address and a Google account identifier. This is used only to identify the sync account, request Google Drive AppData access, and keep your notes synced across devices.
1.3 Subscription status
If you purchase a Cloud Sync subscription through Google Play, the app checks your subscription status so it can unlock Cloud Sync features and reduce ad interruptions for subscribed users. Payment information is processed by Google Play, not by Simple Notepad.
1.4 Advertising and device identifiers
The free version of the app uses Google Mobile Ads. Google and its partners may process device identifiers, advertising identifiers, IP address, app interactions, and related technical data for ad delivery, measurement, fraud prevention, and policy compliance.
1.5 Files you choose to import, export, share, or back up
If you use features such as backup via email, restore from storage, share, or local import/export, the app processes the files or note content you explicitly choose. The handling of that data by any target app, email provider, cloud service, or file manager is governed by the privacy policy of that service.
2. How We Use Information
- To create, edit, search, recover, share, import, export, and restore notes.
- To protect note access using optional lock pattern features stored on your device.
- To sign you in with Google and enable Google Drive AppData Cloud Sync if you subscribe.
- To verify subscription status and apply related benefits, including fewer ads.
- To show ads in the free experience and measure ad delivery performance.
- To maintain app stability, prevent abuse, and comply with Google Play and legal requirements.
3. Cloud Sync and Google Drive
Cloud Sync is optional and requires an active subscription plus Google sign-in. When enabled, note data is stored in your Google Drive AppData folder. This folder is intended for app-specific private data and is not displayed like regular files in the main Google Drive document list.
Simple Notepad does not operate its own server to store your notes. Cloud-synced note data is transferred directly between your device and Google services.
4. Advertising and Subscription Benefits
The app may display banner, app open, and interstitial ads for non-subscribed users. If you subscribe to Cloud Sync, these ad formats are disabled in the app while your subscription remains active.
Subscription products are managed by Google Play. Pricing, billing cycle, free trial eligibility, renewal, cancellation, grace period, and account hold are handled through Google Play and may vary by region.
5. Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal information. Depending on the features you use, data may be processed by:
- Google Play Billing, for subscription purchase and subscription status.
- Google Sign-In and Google Identity services, for account authentication.
- Google Drive API, for Cloud Sync storage in your Google account.
- Google Mobile Ads, for advertising, measurement, and fraud prevention.
6. Data Retention
Local note data remains on your device until you delete it, uninstall the app, clear app data, or replace local content using restore or account-switch flows. Cloud-synced data remains in your Google Drive AppData space until it is replaced by newer synced data, removed from your Google account environment, or otherwise deleted under Google service controls.
7. Your Choices and Controls
- You can use basic local note features without enabling Cloud Sync.
- You can sign out of Google Cloud Sync inside the app to stop future sync activity.
- You can manage or cancel subscriptions in Google Play Store > Subscriptions.
- You can manage Google account access permissions from your Google account settings.
- You can delete local notes, clear app data, uninstall the app, or contact us if you need help.
If you want help understanding how to remove cloud-synced data from your Google account environment, contact us and we will point you to the available Google account controls.
8. Security
We take reasonable steps to reduce privacy and security risks, including using Google platform services for authentication, billing, and encrypted network transmission. However, no method of electronic storage or internet transmission is completely secure.
9. Children's Privacy
Simple Notepad is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us.
10. International Users
Depending on the Google services you use with the app, your data may be processed by Google and its service providers in locations outside your country or region, subject to Google's applicable policies and safeguards.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect app changes, legal requirements, or service provider updates. The latest version should be published with an updated effective date.
